Kristin Davis in the early days of Sex and the City
Speaking on the podcast, Kristen said that before filming the pilot, she was told that she needed to cut her long hair because they wanted her to look like Jill Hennessy in Law and order. For context, Jill had chin-length bob hair at the time.
Kristen ended up reluctantly going to the hair salon to get the cut after being told that if she didn’t, the show’s hairdresser would cut it for her on her first day on the job. She later realized that she should have gone to her representative for help.
Later in the podcast, Kristen revealed that Sarah Jessica invited her to her trailer on her first day on set, and Kristen was thrilled to see her co-star eating “a huge Krispy Kreme donut thing.”
“I remember watching[Sarah Jessica]talk to Darren about it and I thought: ‘This woman is so strong in herself, knows herself so well, and speaks to him in an equally wonderful way in terms of creativity.’” Kristin told listeners: “I had not seen that.” Really, and I wasn’t really around for that.”
Christine then revealed how her character, Charlotte, was almost belittled during filming, which she didn’t find surprising at first considering how “strong” the other three characters were in comparison.
Admitting she was “scared” about her future on the show, Kristen said: “It was also very clear from the book and from the script and from the pilot that Charlotte’s point of view was a different point of view from the other girls’ point of view.”
“And I’m so grateful that I didn’t do that, and that I believe in myself,” Christine concluded. “I’m really not sure why in some ways; I wasn’t the most confident person or anything like that, but I feel like when things come to you, and you have something that connects to that, and you have something that you want to be able to express or create or whatever, and something that you want to be a part of… I knew I wanted so badly to be a part of it.
