Hampton, GA. – Pit Road can be decisive in today’s cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
There were numerous incidents on Pit Road with cars that made contact and several speed points last year in Atlanta.
At least half a dozen drivers had some contact on Pit Road in last year.
“I definitely think, especially if it continues, we will probably need something else of a pit road at some point,” Carson Hocevar said. ‘Just wider. The boxes are small and it is stiff, so if they can somehow make it wider, I think, it would be a bigger deal.
‘At the same time, we have to find out that too. They don’t have to change that. … The only concern is that there are guys on the pit road that things get really stiff. ‘
The issue is that it is such a fine to be under Green – Pit Road entrance in his turn 3 instead of turning off 4 – that the field will wait to wait, if possible. With pack racing, few cars are off the front shot, which means that if Pit Road opens for the first time, it will probably have more than 30 cars to the pits.
With cars entering and leaving their stalls, it can create contact.
“You are watching videos at this place and there were many people who had contact on Pit Road,” Chris Buescher said. “It gets very tight here. It is now a superpeedway in many ways. It’s like Daytona, we all come down at the same time, very close to each other. This pit road is incredibly small compared to Daytona.
‘(Pit) box is small. Pit Road is really narrow. Yes, we have an exit through the grass. I chased Legends cars here and grew up and probably spent an unfortunate time in that grass. I can tell you that it’s not smooth either. It’s an escape, but you definitely don’t want to be there. Everything here is tighter for Pit Road. “
Another problem is the fines of the Pit Road. There were ten in last year’s play -off match and 14 in February race. It was the two highest total of the fines of the Pit Road that were in the cup this past season.
Under green flag conditions, the speed restriction of the Pit Road is 90 km / h from the entrance of Turn 3 by Turn 4 on the apron. Once drivers come to Pit Road – marked by a yellow line – the speed restriction is 45 km / h.
Under yellow plane conditions, the velocity of the pit road is 45 km / h of when teams enter the track at the entrance of Turn 3.
Teams are warned that if they cut the radius too much on the apron in turn 3 and 4, which can exceed them the speed restriction for those zones.
“It’s a tough pit road,” Alex Bowman said. “The straight part of Pit Road is super bumpy, so it’s hard to hold your lights (the velocity of the pit road).”
