Jayden Daniels leads the Commanders to a third straight game with no turnovers and no punts

Before this season, no rookie quarterback in NFL history had ever led his team to a game without a turnover or a punt. This season, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has done it three times.

Daniels and the Commanders never punted or turned the ball over in Sunday’s 23-20 win over the Buccaneers, the third time they’ve done so with Daniels as the starting quarterback. The Chiefs also never had a turnover or punt in their win over the Giants, or in their loss to the Bengals.

Teams going an entire game without a turnover or punt are extremely rare: There have been only 42 such games in the NFL since 1950. But those games were much more common this season, as Daniels and the Commanders did it three times, Jared Goff and The Lions have done it three times, Joe Burrow and the Bengals have done it once and Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins have done it once.

Goff’s Lions and Daniels’ Commanders will meet Saturday night in a game between two quarterbacks who, between them, have 17 percent of the games without a turnover or a punt in NFL history. (Goff and the Lions also did it once in 2022.) Expect offensive fireworks.
