Jon Gruden’s name still hasn’t come up in the current recruiting cycle

During the final months of the regular season, Jon Gruden’s the name was appearing as a potential candidate for the head coaching job in 2025. However, weeks into the coaching carousel, his name has not been mentioned in any reports linking any team to any candidate.

Because he is not currently employed by any NFL team, the normal procedure for applying for permission to interview a candidate does not apply. And there can be conversations with Gruden without anyone knowing.

It would still be weird if Gruden was in the game and no one leaked it, especially at a time when everyone is talk about the blue line, Jack. It helps Gruden to get his name out there. If a team is looking for a new coach and hears that another team is looking at Gruden, they might suddenly be interested in Gruden for the first time.

There is one caveat to this. Rumors began last week that Gruden’s agent, Bob LaMonte, was telling people that Gruden already had a job. And while it might be bluff and bluff, there’s a non-zero chance that it’s true – and that in due time the search will become public.

Still, it’s hard to imagine any team recruiting any candidate with whom no team is affiliated. To date, no specific team has been linked to Gruden.
