Shakur Stevenson has predicted he will “put on a show” in his title defense against Floyd Schofield on February 22 in Riyadh. Shakur also says she doesn’t need Gervonta Davis, and isn’t chasing him. That’s a laugh.
Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) wants to “make a statement” to the Saudis and all the fans watching the event at home on DAZN PPV. Because of his moves, he could make fans angry and booed in the fourth round.
“He’s a familiar face to the fans. People know it a little bit. It’s going to be an interesting fight,” Shakur Stevenson said. Fight Hub TVSpeaking of his title defense against Floyd Schofield Jr. on February 22nd. “He is a motivated boy. He wants to take my place. He’s trying to take my crown.
“When you’re fighting a young, hungry lion, that’s a lot in itself. I remember being that age myself. I wanted to win the World Cup so badly. I worked extremely hard. I expect him to be the same way.
“My experience. I’ve got a lot of experience for it. I’m very good at it,” Shakur said of Schofield.
Schofield is going to make Shakur look bad by pressing Shakur and hitting hard when he’s close to contact. Stevenson is going to be forced to run like he did with Edwin de los Santos, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Saudi crowd cheers him on. They’re decent guys, but Stevenson can infuriate them with their run to get him out of the ring.
If you’re going to retire with a career you’ve earned, go ahead and do what you have to do. I don’t agree. I think it’s soft, but it is.” Stevenson said of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who will retire after 2025.
Tank has nothing to gain by fighting Shakur because he is unpopular. If Stevenson had the popularity of Ryan Garcia, Tank would have fought him long ago. He is not. Shakir’s boring style of fighting has hindered him from becoming popular and is now being picked up by his age. It should move up soon.
“I don’t want to chase people around. If he’s willing to fight, I’m ready to fight. It should be, but I can’t just sit there and dismiss you and then make it look like I need him. I don’t need him,” Shakur said of not needing Tank Davis.
Who is he kidding? Shakur Since moving to 135 in 2023, Tank has been chasing Davis. In many interviews, Shakur mentioned Gervonta’s name, said that he wanted to fight him and was absolutely desperate. Nostalgia for tank combat.
Stevenson’s career is based on that fight, and his promoter Eddie Hearn has been constantly talking about wanting him to fight Tank-Shakur. This may be the main reason Hearn signed Shakur, as a feud between him and Tank would make a lot of money.
