Tiger Woods is not the only high-profile player who recently joined the President Donald Trump for the Golf Circle.
Rory Mcicroy revealed on Wednesday in the invitation in Torrey Pines who played a trumpet golf in South Florida last month, shortly before the inauguration. Among those topics that day was, surprisingly, ongoing negotiations between the PGA tour and the public investment investment fund of Saudi Arabia, which LIV Golf funds.
“I thought we had a good discussion,” McIlroy said, who also spent time on Wednesday Pro-am in Torrey with Donald Trump Jr. And his daughter, Kaima. “I learned that he was not a liv format fan.” But you hosted their events. “It was like,” Yes, but it doesn’t mean I think it’s on the side of the tour. “
Micliroy preceded a meeting last week in the White House between Trump and two representatives of the PGA tour, Jaya Monakhan Commissioner and the Adam Scott director, as well as the forest last Sunday.
He asked what Trump can do to speed up the contract, McIlroy replied, “he can do a lot of things.”
“He has a direct approach (Governor PIF) Yasir (Al-Rumayyan) boss; not many people don’t have it,” McIlroy said. “There aren’t many people say,” I want you to bring this job, and by the way, I talk to your boss, I’ll tell him the same. “There are a few things he can do. It can be influential. I love the game of golf. … I was playing with my Hamdan (Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum) in Abu Dhabi Day when (Trump) was chosen in November, and respect he in close It’s east – I don’t think people must have there.
“So, I think whenever he says something, they listen and I think it’s a big deal.”
McIlroy made a potential agreement between the two sides could mean, including the challenges that come with reunification of male professional golf. Currently, there are stars in Liv Golf, which signed mass contracts, some valuable nine figures, and then the stars on the PGA tour, which remained loyal, but, as McIlroy noticed, also in accordance with LIV.
For McIlroy, a light part is welcome LIV members back – and without a penalty.
“Did you stay on the PGA tour or you left, we all benefited from this,” McIlroy said. “I was on the records I say this, as if we play for a $ 20 million prize pool. It would never happen if Liv didn’t come. I think everyone has to get over, and we all have to say, all right, this is Starting point and we move forward. We don’t look behind us, we don’t look at the past. What happened, it happened, and it was unfortunate, but reunion, as we all return together and move forward, the best for everyone.
“If people are hurt or hurt their feelings because guys are gone or what more, as who cares?”
It may be more complex what the competitive landscape looks like a post-contract. McIlroy claims that it is unlikely, although not impossible, for Liv players to give treaches to travel several of their favorite PGA tours that stops each year while holding a complete schedule on Liv. One option, says, is the PGA tour doing what is done with the DP World Tour events and co-sanctioning with LIV on some of its most successful tournaments, as well as this week of Liv Adelaide.
Or McIlroy asks: “Do they take a smaller part of the schedule?”?
It may add, with Liv to fully lean in the format for heads to the head, as it does for his team championship.
“Instead maybe it may be once a year and then these events for playing the walk, can you reduce the array events and do more than that a few times a year?” Mcilroy said. “I think that’s a way, because these guys will come back and play – I don’t want to say really, play real golf – but more like the championship of each golf, then more opportunities for these teams to go more heads in the head because I think that makes more
Pretty product, at least in my eyes. “
McIlroy simply does not want no tourist crossover on their part.
“I hope not,” Mcilroy said.
