Grigor Dimitrov retired in the Brisbane International semi-finals with a groin injury

BRISBANE, Australia — Defending Brisbane International champion Grigor Dimitrov retired from his semifinal match on Saturday to hand Jiri Lehka a second Australian title.

Trailing 6-4, 4-4, world number 10 Dimitrov received treatment on his groin and hip area at the Pat Rafter Arena. He went off court and then tried to play before retiring to send the 23-year-old Leheka to his fourth ATP final.

Leheka won last year’s Adelaide International title, his first ATP singles tournament victory.

Former world No. 3 Dimitrov has a week to recover before the Australian Open, which starts on January 12 in Melbourne.

“I hope it’s nothing serious for Grigor; The first set and the first half of the second half were good,” said Leheka. “I would have liked to finish the match differently, but hopefully he will be fine.”
