Montreal-Canadian teenager Victoria Maboko defeated Elena Ribakina of the ninth-descent of Elena Ribakina 3-6, -6, -6 (6) to reach the National Bank to reach the Open final.
The Ribakina shot was lined with “Allej Vicky” after the 18-year-old Moboko came to court after a long journey on the match point. Maboko saved a match point in the third set and forced the tiebreaker twice to break Ribakina twice.
“Incredible match, thank you all for supporting me,” Maboko told the crowd in French. “It was really hard, but something could happen.”
In the second semifinal, he will face Denmark’s 1st-national-born Clara Tauson 6-2, -6-6 ()) winner Japan star Naomi Osaka.
Mamboko, who is ranked 5th in the world, is seeking his first WA tour title and is trying to join Fi Urban (999) and Bianka Andrysku (25) as the only Canadian to win the home event in the Open Age.
“The game is clearly the advantage of playing in front of the house crowd,” said Moboko. “All of you are always pumping you as much as possible. It pulls me out at such hard moments where I’m probably not positive. Blessed to get this kind of support.”
Born in Charlota in North Carolina, Congolis grew up in Toronto, to his parents. He disrupted the top-proclaimed Coco Ghof 6-1, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals, then Jessica was at the top of the Bujas Maniero-4-4, -2-2. 2 hours, in 4 46 minutes, the match against Ribakina was the longest in Moboko’s short tour career.
From Kazakhstan, Ribakina won the Wimbledon in 2022. He has won nine WTA tour in his career, winning Clay at Starsburg in May. Ribakina defeated Maboko -3, -5-5 in Washington.
“I knew she was a strong opponent,” said Ribakina. “He served really well in these important moments. It was a very close match like a big fight so it can go in any way, but it has become his.”
Maboko has overcome five double-flags and fought in the wrist injury after strangely stumbling on the ground in the second game of the third set. He will move to the world at least 34th place after the year starts out of the top 300.
Maboko said that his wrist was felt “much better” after the match, but at this moment, the fall almost crushed his soul.
“He was playing really great tennis on top of it, but I’m glad that I left my composer.” “I was patient at the right moments. I feel really happy that I was able to go back after I got down, even a match point, I think.”
Osaka, the four -time Grand Slam champion, who reached the world number one, continued his best performance in the WAA1000 tournament since reaching the Miami final in 2022. He set foot for 15 months at the end of that season and was daughter Shai on July 2023. He is looking for his first title after his eighth title and 2021 Australian Open.
