House jumpstarts review of flood control projects after Marcos’ SONA directive


The House seeks to obtain a list of failed, unfinished, and ghost flood control projects over the years

MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives began on Monday, August 4, its formal review of flood control programs, after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. promised a crackdown on government officials and private sector accomplices allegedly corrupting such projects.

Bicol Saro Representative Terry Ridon, who presided over the first hearing of the public accounts committee, delivered an opening speech and said the following:

  • He directed the Department of Public Works and Highways to submit to the panel a list of all flood control projects started and completed since 2022.
  • He asked the Regional Project Monitoring Committee to submit to the House a list of failed, unfinished, and ghost projects.
  • He promised to publish a list.
  • He promised an audit and performance review regarding the projects.
